Liv. is Emirates NBD's digital native sub-brand, launched in 2017 as a mobile-first banking proposition targeting UAE residents in their twenties and thirties. The Liv. credit card lives inside the Liv. app along with the Liv. account, and the entire onboarding, statement and reward journey is designed to live on a phone not at a branch. This creates a card which feels quite different from the rest of the ENBD range, even though it is underwritten by the same bank.

Eligibility and onboarding

The Liv. credit card targets residents with a minimum monthly income of AED 5,000, with no salary transfer required at entry level. The onboarding process is fully digital: candidates take a selfie, scan their Emirates ID, connect their existing bank for income verification and get a virtual card in the app within minutes. The physical card is shipped via courier and you will receive it within a few business days. No need to visit a branch, no paper application form.

The bar is set deliberately low to attract young residents who are opening their first card, even those who do not transfer their salary into Liv. itself. This makes Liv. one of the easier credit cards in UAE to get if you are earning between AED 5,000 and AED 8,000.

Reward structure

Historically, the Liv. cashback card has paid a flat 1 percent cashback on broad categories of UAE spend, with elevated rates of around 3 to 5 percent on a rotating monthly category and tiered higher rebates on supermarkets, dining and ride-hailing during specific campaigns. Cashback is credited as Liv. Cash directly to the card balance and does not expire. There's no point conversion to deal with, no airline redemption complexities.

Liv. has also had miles-earning versions on Emirates Skywards in past iterations, but the cashback card is the volume product and the one most Liv. users actually have. If you're a young resident of the UAE who eats out, regularly uses Careem and shops on Noon and Amazon.ae, the cashback card is a more straightforward return than faffing around with a small Skywards balance.

Annual fee

The Liv. card has a historically low annual fee, ranging from AED 0 to AED 300, with the first year fee waived and ongoing waivers available based on spending criteria. For the average Liv. cardholder who spends AED 5,000 to AED 10,000 a month on the card, the fee is effectively zero.

Liv. works with merchants that are actually used by the target demographic, including VOX cinemas, food delivery (Talabat, Careem Food, Deliveroo at different points), Sharaf DG, fitness studios, and event ticketing platforms. The bundle is curated through the Liv. app instead of a standalone discount portal, meaning offers are surfaced contextually as the cardholder spends. No ENTERTAINER membership, no airport lounge access at standard tier; this is not a travel card.

A small subset of higher-tier Liv. products have included limited LoungeKey or DragonPass access, but the headline cashback card falls short of that benefit threshold.

How it compares to other starter cards

Against the RAKBANK Red Mastercard, the other strong no-salary-transfer starter card in the UAE, Liv. wins on app experience, onboarding speed and merchant curation. RAKBANK Red is more of a traditional product that quietly sits in a wallet; Liv. is a card you open on the phone every day. Against the FAB Cashback or ADCB SimplyLife cards at similar income tiers, Liv. is more streamlined and meaningfully easier to manage if the cardholder is mobile-native.

The tradeoff is depth. Liv. doesn't carry the premium tier credit card with lounge and concierge bundle that residents making AED 25,000+ eventually want. Liv. is a daily driver, a starter card, not an end-state product.

Strengths

The Liv. mobile experience is the cleanest in the UAE. The Liv. app handles real-time spend notifications, instant freeze and unfreeze, instant statement viewing, virtual card numbers for online checkout, and direct cashback redemption inside the app. Onboarding and KYC take minutes, not days. Annual fee is virtually free for the average spender. The cashback setup is simple to grasp and the reimbursement is distributed in dirhams so there is no learning curve with airline points.

Weaknesses

The travel and lifestyle pack is lean. No airport lounge access on the headline card, no travel insurance you can rely on, no ENTERTAINER and no premium concierge. Cashback rates on baseline categories are lower than that of the best UAE cashback cards once the elevated category caps fill up. Customer service is app-based, a plus for tech-savvy users and a minus for residents who want a relationship manager when something goes wrong.

Who should pick Liv.

If you're a young UAE resident or new to the country looking for a clean first credit card with no salary transfer requirement, the Liv. card is for you. You live in your phone, spend predictably on dining, ride-hailing and online shopping, and don't need lounge access or travel benefits just yet. Later, as your income and spending grow, you can pair it with a separate travel-focused card.

Verdict

The Liv. card is the best mobile-native starter credit card in the UAE. It's not the highest-earning cashback card, and it's not a travel card, but it is the easiest card in the country to apply for and manage day-to-day. It's the right card for its target audience of an AED 5,000 to AED 12,000 earner who wants minimal friction and a clean dirham rebate. For residents with higher incomes, it should be seen as a complementary card to a premium ENBD, FAB or Mashreq product, not a stand-alone card.
